Update From Taylor: An Inspiring Collaboration

The heart and soul behind SJM has always been deep, rich community that values the different perspectives we all bring to the table. It’s been my heart to make room at this table not only for women in business, and moms looking for connection, but for anyone whose experience hasn’t always been one of effortless belonging.

Our family knows personally how navigating life with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) can make finding your place a bit challenging.

My 6-year old daughter was recently diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Although she's mostly high-functioning, the journey has been filled with learning how to lean into our incredibly supportive community to navigate this new season.

This personal journey ignited an even deeper passion within me to raise awareness and create a space of understanding and belonging. It made me realize the significance of not only recognizing but also celebrating the individual differences that make each of us unique.

Championing the Cause: Best Buddies International

It's this drive that led me to Best Buddies, an organization that resonates deeply with my personal experiences. For those unfamiliar, Best Buddies is a global volunteer-driven movement with a mission to establish opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and more for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Their heartwarming programs target ending the social, physical, and economic isolation faced by countless individuals worldwide with IDD.

Their efforts mirror the kind of community I’ve found here in St. Johns - one that is supportive, champions families, and values every individual.

I'm thrilled to share that I've been selected as one of seven community leaders for Best Buddies’ Champion of the Year campaign. This initiative is all about raising awareness and resources to support this cause. I’m eagerly looking forward to contributing, collaborating, and learning throughout this journey.
